After a week long partying on Koh Phangan, Koh Tao was great island to relax a little. From advice from people we met along the way, Ban's Diving was the chosen resort we stayed in for the week. As we were doing the Open Water Padi accommodation was subsidized, so it worked out really reasonable. The group had gathered a few more with John, Jill, the "C" girls and the infamous Jonny and Seanie all hitting the turtle island for a few days.
Diving was amazing, a little daunting at times but really something I'll continue to do as much as I can over the next year or so. We had a great instructor called Matt. He had bundle's of experience and also enjoyed a little night cap. First day or so consisted of mainly theory work and numerous skills carried out in the pool. When had had all the skills mastered along with passing the Final Theory Exam we were given the green light for a number of dives out at sea.
In total we had four dives, two being fun dives seeing the amazing coral and marine life. The other two consisted of completing the under water skills we learned in the pool. Taking your mask off 15M down, CESA (controlled emergency safety ascend) and navigating with your buddy were a few off the skills we practiced.
We were really lucky with the weather when we dived. Previously Koh Tao had three weeks of rain before we arrived making diving conditions poor. We had good visibility in all our dives making it easy to see all the different coral and numerous species of multi coloured fish.
If we had more time the Advance Course would of been a great opportunity to do night diving and shark diving. We still have plans to take the course, maybe when were around the great barrier reef, who knows.
We got a DVD of our final dive from start to finish. Seanie has it. He'll be over in Sydney early January, so I'll try and get some clips up on YouTube.
Speaking of Video's, I've put a few up on our dubsdownunder account on YouTube, so check them out if you haven't already. There's a link to the site down on the bottom right of the task bar. Any good ones I put up directly on the site.
Most of the pictures are from our big roll over night after completing the Padi course with myself, Dec, Jonny and Seanie turning in some solid performances.
Christmas only nine days and counting.
