The name of the game in Thailand - is survival. The place is mental, and money is the reason. A small bit goes a long way, in the case of the locals especially. We had an elephant trek / hiking tour for 3 days in Chiang Mai, well outside of it. It was a great experience and certainly my 1st time out of civilisation as it is, no phones, no tv, nothing , just yourself and a few mud huts and a deck of cards. Only plus was a few Thai whiskeys and Chiang Beer ( 6.4 % ) which was good.

It was a good experience though, we found out a lot about Thailand that not many people would know. We lived the way they do up there. The locals are really fiendly, but suppose they have to be, when for some of them, we are there only source of income. Elephant trekking was pretty good aswell, my first and most probably last experience of being on an elephant, and boy are they lazy, smelly and hungry! Must have eaten about ten - fifteen bags of bananas.

The people we stayed with were nice, well most of em. some nutcases out there. Met a lovely french couple Cederic et Alexandra from Lille, which we had a great night with the 1st night. Unfortunately, they left on the second day, mainly due to the fact that it never stopped raining. They had decided that an extra day on a beach in South Thailand was better, Good call i say. But we soldiered on, troopers, glad we did too.

Chiang Mai is a lot nicer than Bangkok, actually id pretty much say everywhere in the world is. When i posted my last message, i had'nt walked through Bangkok in the day, and when i did the next day, it's even worse. The smells are horrific, smog all day, so so busy, filthy, basically its just a filthy hole! I'll be scratching that place off my Dream places to live list! :)

Off to Laos tomorrow, which should be interesting, before we head to Vietnam on the infamous Laos Airlines, which refuse to publish they're safety records! So needless to say, thats the part im most looking forward to!

So until then, Laos or Hanoi, im not sure which? :)

Livrpool are still muck. Man U won 3-0 last night and did not even have to move out of first gear. Glad to see your enjoying yourself Dave fitz.
I will have 1 or 2 pints for you this weekend oh that makes 12 good ha ha ha.
