Cricket @ the SCG ( Sydney Cricket Ground )

Now, i know for most people back home, the mention of the word cricket posts a picture in the head of boring! Well, its not as exciting as field sports, but it is however a great day out on the p**s , and if the sun shines, which it generally does in Australia, then it's an even better day out.

We went to the 3mobile Test series of Australia Vs India in early January, and had a great day. For those of you who don't know much about cricket, test matches usually last 5 days, and we went on Day four. Unfortunately, a lot of the play was disrupted by rain so we did'nt actually get to see the best cricket. In fact being honest, of all the days play in the 4 test games, we probably got the slowest one.

But we werent to be deterred, we still had a great day there with the ozzies, and we did our best to drink all the beer available to us! There was great banter happening between the ozzie crowd and the Indian players, so much so, that at one stage an indian player had to be moved from the boundary to accross the field cos he could'nt hack any more. The test has been disrupted with allegations of unfair play, racism , the whole lot, so its fair to say that the rivalry is fairly intense.

However the one bright spark to the day was Matthew Hayden's Century , which is a great feat in cricket, so at least we got something to smile about when the sun was'nt shining. FYI , the match was won by the Ozzies on the last day within the final few balls ( 8 minutes play left infact ), which had looked extremely unlikely throughout the whole test.

So that was our 1st sporting event in Sydney, with plenty more to come in this sports mad country!!
