Squeezing In A Bit More In Oz

I hate starting off posts with cliches but here it goes, time flies when your having fun. Fruit picking is all but done and dusted and it's time to start packing the backpack again. The last three months have certainly been a massive highlight of the trip so far, so be expecting a couple of in depth posts during the next week.

The biggest thing I've learned from travelling so far is to be flexible. The current plan came from a host of others which showed great promise but never really materialised. My main idea was to get the full east coast experience in with Darwin and Alice Springs a good possibility. Anywho, here's the rough itinerary for the next six weeks before the dubsdownunder meet again in Sydney on the 13th August to explore New Zealand.

Saturday 5th July - Leaving Cellblock Backpackers in Bundaberg. Taking the Premier Bus down to Hervey Bay.

Saturday 5th July - Frazer Island for 2 days & 1 night.

Monday 7th July - Get the Premier Bus to Brisbane. Staying in the Bunk Backpackers for one night. The following night staying with Del who tells me he lives across the road. Sweet. Will be dropping off the laptop and a couple of other items to be picked up next year.

Wednesday 9th July - Fly to Adelaide. Wasn't in the original plans but why not.

Saturday 12th July - Taking a package bus deal to Alice Springs as the flights are fairly expensive. Trip takes 2 days.

Monday 14th July - Spending about a week around the area getting in as much as possible and of course a nice golden tan.

Monday 21st July - Reach Darwin by bus and visit the sites for a few days.

Wednesday 23rd July - On to Cairns for a few days. A number of possibilities here, so we'll see what happens. Maybe full moon on Magnetic Island or Tully.

Saturday 26th July - Whitsundays and Airlie beach.

Tuesday 29th July / Tuesday 5th - No real plan here. There is a number of options including Mission Beach, Rainbow Beach, 1770 Beach, Byron Bay, Nimbin or Surfers Paradise. The main thing is to be all setup to be in Sydney for the Wednesday. It's always good to have a flexible week just incase some of the trip runs on longer than expected.

Wednesday 6th August - Arrive In Sydney for a week to meet up with friends. Hopefully staying with someone who's willing to put me up for a week. Not that fussy even the floor will do.

Wednesday 13th August - Goodbye Australia for now. Leave Sydney for Christchurch in New Zealand.

This plan is a little weird as usually you travel up the east coast, especially as I'm half way up in Bundaberg at the moment. This though does allow me to meet up with people who I've met already and who have gone ahead. Going counter clockwise will mean meeting up with pals probably in Darwin or Cairns. We'll see, anything is possible at the moment. That's why travelling is the bee's knees.

Another new for this trip is the friendly folk I'm travelling with. I never thought I'd end up travelling with four French girls Clem, Chloe, Diane and Helene. All the girls are good craic and I'll have plenty of time to scratch up on my French. Allez les bleus!

Finishing off with a famous Forest Grump quote, My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Cheesy I know but, so true.
