We went to this game just to really see what the standard was, and as i suspected, not very good at all! At one stage in the warm up i couldn't believe what i was looking at, the touch was shocking. But we were getting a good laugh out of it. Lets face it, it's just not the same as watching Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo tearing teams apart in the premiership although little Juninho was playing, but he just isn't the same boy anymore.
Best thing about all the games in Australia is that u can get beers at it which keeps most lads happy to be honest. All the sporting events are fairly well organised in general.
The game itself at times was pretty crap, but we did see a few goals as we suspected having watched Sydney's last two games finish 4-3 and 5-4. It finished 2-2 with Melbourne deservedly equalising & taking a point at the end. As far as we can gather, this was the highest ever A-league attendance with i think 33,000 + attending, so football is growing here in a big way. The Sydney fans were pretty cool, giving a great atmosphere from behind the goal, singing and bouncing for practically the whole game and the place erupted when Steve Corica put them ahead early into the game. The added atmosphere for the game was helped by the fact that Sydney and Melbourne have a big rivalry, not only in football, but in pretty much everything in Australia.
In fairness to the small group of Melbourne fans, they did do their part for their team, trying to match the huge numbers of Sydney fans by doing their own crazy singing and dancing. So I'll let you enjoy the vids and the photos.
For the record, the game meant nothing really as Sydney had already confirmed their place in the 1st 4 places and qualified for the playoffs. Melbourne however finished 5th.
