Swans sizzle as they thrash Port

Picture this. The SCG with 25,000 red Swans fans, the perfect balmy afternoon and a great game full of goals and action. I don't think our first experience of the classic Aussie Rules game could disappoint at all.

Being my last (was supposed to be my last) weekend in Sydney a group of five headed out to the SCG to watch the Swans play their opening home game of the season in late March. The game itself turned out to be a training match for the Swans as they thrashed the Port 146 - 78, a huge margin in AFL.

Our eyes were generally focused on our fellow Irish man Tadhg Kennelly and of course Barry "Baz" Hall. The work rate of all the players was amazing, especially seeing the movement and constant running, which wouldn't be seen on TV. Barry Hall, with a game-high five goals, showed he was back with a confident display harking back to Big Barry's golden days.

After the game we took to the field and kicked the footy around, I cant remember anybody scoring a goal, but I think I popped up with a few behinds. Maybe another day. It was a definite contrast to Croker where generally nobody is allowed on the field. A great day out and hopefully I'll get a Brisbane Lions game in next month when I finish up fruit picking.
