Getting Some More Aussie Sports Under The Belt

It was Sunday 1st February when we headed across to East Perth, home of the famous Waca cricket ground. Blessed with great weather, which has been pretty much the case since I've been in Australia, the oval pitch looked a great sight for the days events. The sold out game was in high demand due to the Australia team rarely making it over to Western Australia, preferring the more populated East.

Australia came into this game off the back of a defeat to South Africa, so there was massive expectation to regain form and end the summer on a high. Their misery continued though with the Black Caps pipping them by two wickets to clinch a low-scoring thriller and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI Commonwealth cricket series.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting had decided to bat first, Kiwi fast bowler Kyle Mills (4/35) and his bowling colleagues skittled out the Green Baggies for 181 in 48.4 overs. Chasing a victory target of 182, New Zealand huffed and puffed before Ross Taylor (64) propped them up. Needing five runs off the last over, the Kiwis levelled the score in the fifth ball before captain Daniel Vettori hit the winning run off the last delivery from Nathan Bracken. A real nail bitting finish.
