I think maybe the casino was a bad call last night along with the numerous free JD and cokes. Adleast now I've a new lucky number, 17 black. It came good.
Flying out today, starting possibly the best year of our lives. Feeling a little apprehensive, to be expected I suppose. Still haven’t got my head around what were actually doing. No time for worrying now though, it’s going to be immense.
Had some good news yesterday. A good friend from college, Joey, is joining us on the Asia leg. He's an Offaly man with a good sense of humour ...

The name of the game in Thailand - is survival. The place is mental, and money is the reason. A small bit goes a long way, in the case of the locals especially. We had an elephant trek / hiking tour for 3 days in Chiang Mai, well outside of it. It was a great experience and certainly my 1st time out of civilisation as it is, no phones, no tv, nothing , just yourself and a few mud huts and a deck of cards. Only plus was a few Thai whiskeys and Chiang Beer ( 6.4 % ) which ...

Only leaving Chiang Mai in North West Thailand, did we appreciate how nice a city it actually was. we had been trekking in the mountains most of the time since we arrived, well Thai Boxing ( the real one, not the show one) on the first night, so we dint get to see all of it. It's a really nice city, full of hustle and bustle, but so so different from Bangkok, which was welcome.
Headed for the Mekong River, which is on the Laos / Thailand border. Took 6 hours on a bus, which wasnt too bad. really glad ...

"what a kip" was eco'd by all the lads on the over-nite train outta their last week. Their wasn't a good word to be heard, the closest thing was "Thank Fcuk it wasn't raining". I could only descrbe it as a city made up of one type of street - Moore Street!!! The sights and smells were well funky and that was the main streets, if you go off ...

Got setup in a nice guesthouse after finishing the gruelling two day slow boat, which was made worse sitting beside the engine both days.
Luang Prabang is a really nice stop-off city along the Mekong. Very scenic with small cosy restaurants dotted along the banks. Travelling nearly two weeks now we have met some great people along the way. At the ...

Day trippers from Ko samui and the other islands line the beach and a few hard core people from last nite are still going but looking a bit worse for wear. A day of intense chilling out now followed by a nite of god know's what lie ahead. Pictures to follow and we'll try put into words what we come across but if last nite was anything to go by that will be easier said than done.

Videos will also be up in the next day or two. Below is us at the biggest waterfall in Luang Prabang. It really was spectacular and definitely the highlight in Laos. We had heard numerous stories from many people we met along the way how Vietnam was. It definitely took us all by surprise just to what extent the Vietnamese operate. Like all Indo Asian people we have met or observed, they operate in a relaxed manner, going at their daily jobs at a general slow pace never breaking sweat. Once you place one behind a wheel or motorbike, they use it as a major release mechanism to exert any stress or tension. The taxi ride into Hanoi, the taxi driver was constantly on the horn and full lights to shift ...

After a week long partying on Koh Phangan, Koh Tao was great island to relax a little. From advice from people we met along the way, Ban's Diving was the chosen resort we stayed in for the week. As we were doing the Open Water Padi accommodation was subsidized, so it worked out really reasonable. The group had gathered a few more with John, Jill, the "C" girls and the infamous Jonny and Seanie all hitting the turtle island for a few days.

After all the travelling throughout Vietnam, I must admit we were all relieved to finally make it to the party island that Kho Phangan is. For me, this was by far the best city that we visited in Asia. It just had everything, like it was a city that was built for fun, in particular for tourists as it seemed packed with tourist locations and attractions including waterworlds, really cool (if not too busy) bars, the KL tower, and the unbelievable Petronas towers. The city is well lit up with big screens, almost constantly showing Premiership highlights for the motorists stuck in traffic. Lots of fancy hotels, shops, the whole lot.

Singapore turned out to be quiet similar to Kuala Lumpur with shopping centers and humid wet weather being the two consistent factors.
To save a little on money we took the over night train from Kuala Lumpur down to Singapore city. Like all the over nighters, the train ride was fairly easy going with the exception of border control where we had to leave with all our luggage and go through customs. Only a small inconvenience.
Arriving in the city we found the cheapest hotel relatively close to everything. As it was the start of the high season prices were ...

But we were getting a good laugh out of it. This time it was Rugby Union in the Super 14's to watch the 'Tahs' against the Hurricanes. To be honest, rugby union isn't that popular here in Sydney, its all about the Rugby league here, which they are absolutely mad for and it dominates the TV and the papers, the same way Aussie Rules is the main sport in Victoria (Melbourne).

Stepping off the train at Bundaberg Station on the 9th of April I did dwell for a moment what exactly I’d be letting myself in for. My first experience of fruit picking was in fact tomato wiring. The basic tying wire around stakes to keep the plant upright. Added to that my lunch for the day consisted of one bottle of water and a bag of crisps for the ten hour day.

Always up for a bit of competition I duly accepted the challenge from my bother Jonny to complete the most km's over a month. Both of us using the new Nike+ technology makes it easier to keep track of the distance, time and calories burned on every run.
This year I have set myself the goal to complete a marathon. Everything is on track. I'm training every week and complete 30km-40km. Running in Perth during the summer is difficult with temperature in the late evening still reaching 30 degree. It has cooled down recently which makes long distance more achievable. ...

Over the last few weeks in Perth I have thought long and hard about what exactly to do for the rest of the year. There were a number of options on the table including packing the bags and going home or go travelling again. I'm glad I choose the later. Coming over to Australia the second time round didn't live up to my expectations. Getting a good engineering job over here at the moment is just not feasible unless you have serious experience under the belt. After three months applying and getting little response, morale and optimism fades, fast.
I ...

Boldbear is a soon to be released web design company. Co founded by my brother Jonny and college friends Brian and Joe it's an exciting venture. The lads have put allot of work into their new customer friendly web page editor, which is a major corner stone of the Boldbear web design. This easy to use editor allows the customer to update their website independently without requiring outside maintenance. I use an early version of this to update my blog.
Just to keep my creative juices flowing I have started to design some Boldbear inspired Wallpaper, which might end up ...

On Sunday I completed my first competitive Half Marathon. Over ten years has passed since my last race in Holland where I nearly cried trying to finish a 10km. I didn't think I could do the distance. Things were definitely different this time around. The last five months of training and lifestyle changes (cutting down on the bad and unhealthy) really helped.
There was a couple of butterflies Sunday morning and the odd feeling of getting up at 6am, but once I reached the B.W.S. centre the nerves had gone. A good warm up followed and I couldn't wait to ...

Perth is not know for iconic buildings or landmarks, but the city's skyline is unique and boasts some nice features. This collection revolves around the main CBD with the two large skyscrapers taking central stage, namely St. Georges Bank and West Bank with Perth's three main beaches thrown in for good measure, Scarborough, City and Cottesloe Beach. Most of these pictures were taken in the middle of winter with the skies still deep blue and the sun warm. Picture perfect panoramic Perth!

My first marathon in Perth Australia July ‘09. I don’t think there’s anything more satisfying than completing the flat 42km asphalt course. Adrenaline mixed with a little euphoria is certainly a recipe to leave a smile on your face. It definitely did for me that day.
The day was picture perfect. A high of 20 degrees was just optimum for the long distance event, which meandered scenically around the Swan River. Starting in the city the course headed south towards Fremantle and looped back to the start in Burswood. The city skyline is a beautiful sight along with the somewhat ...

Looking back maybe a diary would have been the best way to keep up and remember all the events of the roadtrip. Hindsight is a wonderful thing alright. To make it a little easier I’m breaking down the trip in two sections as there’s allot to get through and nearly a thousand pictures. First part is Perth to Carnarvon, the second Exmouth to Broome.
The roadtrip idea came about pretty much after staying too long in Perth. I spent the best part of six months there and needed and a change. After the marathon was finished I was lucky to ...

I think everybody was glad to reach Exmouth. Home to the Ninagloo Marine Park and Cape Range National Park there was allot on offer for us to do. The first night we stayed in town at an expensive overflow caravan park. Arriving late in new towns is always a problem when seeking accommodation for the night, but we were glad to just put the heads down. In the morning we were greeted by a local park ranger who arranged accommodation for us at the Yardie Creek Campsite inside the National Park. We only realised later how lucky we were getting ...

Getting back onto the North West Coastal HWY we travelled west and turned off on the Nanutarra Munjina Road towards Tom Price. Tom Price is the largest town outside Karijini and is used by tourists as a base to set off from. Exmouth to Karijini in one day was too hard of a journey, so we took our time and camped rough in the outback on the first night getting there. Getting into Tom Price early the next morning was good to pickup supplies and get advice about seeing the best of what Karijini had to offer. Karijini National Park ...

This post is dedicated to a good buddy of mine who traveled on the Roadtrip and spent the best part of two months with me in Broome. Simone took thousands of pictures along the way from Perth to Broome. I picked out a few to showcase his talent with the Digital SLR. Enjoy!

Like writing all posts it's hard to quiet capture the experience and relive it in words, pictures and videos. My four months in Broome were a definite case in point. Broome was a place where I met amazing people, lived like Ray Mears (bushcraft wizard), worked at a breathtaking location and partied most nights away with stubby in hand (usually Amsterdam).
Over the the four months in Broome I spent the majority of my time in a tent (the last two weeks I upgraded to a bed in an air conditioned hostel). Starting off in a blue two man tent ...

26! Even saying that age gives me the he be gee bees. The years are melting away fast. People have told me this year travelling that between the age of 25-30 the years go in an instant. One minute your 25, you blink and boom your 30. Gonna have to make sure that doesn't happen or adleast not that quickly.
Compared to last years birthday in Los Angelas when I was on my todd this past October 13th was a hundred times better. The sole reason was down to Lauren who went the whole nine yards and more to make ...
